Cassandra Summit 2015 Review

Cassandra Summit 2015 was held recently in Santa Clara, California and Instaclustr attended to present, learn and man an exhibition floor booth.
The level of attendance at the summit (more than double last year at ~6,000) and the plans for the future of Cassandra reinforced for us that Cassandra is a vital technology behind many of the services that we take for granted every day and has a huge future across a wide array of applications.
### What’s New with Cassandra
One un-missable feature of the summit was the level of commitment and support that Microsoft is bringing to Cassandra on Azure. Instaclustr has supported Apache Cassandra on Azure for over 6 months and we’re excited to see Microsoft’s push to sharpen the competition for your IaaS dollar.
The second big focus of announcements was the Cassandra 3.0 and 2.2 features. Big features in 2.2 include JSON support, role-based authorization and user-defined functions. The standout for 3.0 is materialized views as well as major changes under the covers ready for future innovation. Stay tuned for information on how you will be able to try out these new features with Instaclustr in the near future.

The presentations (like many at the conference) were standing room only and well received. Ben Bromhead was also named a [Cassandra Most Valued Professional](https://www.planetcassandra.org/mvps/) for contributions to the Cassandra community and one of our staff attended the training day and received the newly-released Cassandra certification.
Finally, our booth was packed through the two and a bit days of the conference. It was fantastic to have the opportunity to meet several of our customers in person and also to talk with hundreds of people who were interested in how they could reduce their workload and improve the reliability of their Cassandra deployments through the use of the Instaclustr managed service for Cassandra.
