The new version is also available paired with version 2.7.1 of Kafka Connect. Apache Kafka is the leading distributed event streaming platform and is open source under the Apache 2.0 License. Instaclustr provides our customers managed and supported open source software allowing them to avoid the risks of both vendor lock-in and unsupported software with open source that’s really open source. Compared to the previous release, version 2.7.1 of Apache Kafka includes a large number of bug fixes, performance improvements, and new features. Following are some you might find interesting: - *TCP connection timeouts are now configurable*: In previous versions of Apache Kafka, connection timeout durations were system settings dependent (for example, 6 seconds for Linux). Making the timeout configurable (new client-side configuration) makes it possible for clients to be able to detect dead nodes faster. For further information, please refer to[ KIP-601](https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/KAFKA/KIP-601%3A+Configurable+socket+connection+timeout+in+NetworkClient). - *Bug related to leader sometimes updating follower fetch offset fixed*: A blocker bug was identified in Kafka 2.7.1 shortly after its release which can cause log divergence or the loss of committed data within a Kafka cluster ([KAFKA-13141](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-13141)). A fix has been implemented by the Kafka community, and will be available with 2.7.2. Since 2.7.2 might take a while to be released, to ensure our customers upgrading to 2.7.1 don’t run into this, we have proactively back-ported that fix to Kafka 2.7.1 on our managed service. - *Apache ZooKeeper has been upgraded to version 3.5.9*: For further information, please refer to [Apache Zookeeper 3.5.9 Release Notes](https://zookeeper.apache.org/doc/r3.5.9/releasenotes.html).
