ZooKeeper for Kafka has been upgraded as the Kafka project has released support for newer versions. In the current instance, we’re referring to our managed offering for managing Kafka clusters. As we explained in a previous [blog](https://www.instaclustr.com/blog/fully-managed-apache-zookeeper-solution/), managed ZooKeeper allows you to “…leverage ZooKeeper’s strength as a central service responsible for coordinating and managing configuration in distributed applications”, together with Apache or customer applications. We reviewed and tested the changes in the newer versions of ZooKeeper and decided to make versions 3.6.3 and 3.7.1 available on the managed platform. These versions were released April 2021 and May 2022, respectively. ZooKeeper 3.6.3 is the version contained in the recently released Kafka versions 3.0.x, 3.1.x and 3.2.x, while ZooKeeper 3.7.1 is the current [stable ZooKeeper release](https://zookeeper.apache.org/releases.html). ### How to upgrade If you’re using ZooKeeper clients from 3.4 and 3.5 branches we recommend upgrading to[ 3.6.3](https://zookeeper.apache.org/doc/r3.6.3/releasenotes.html). This is a newer release which fixes lots of bugs, vulnerabilities, has [numerous new features](https://zookeeper.apache.org/doc/r3.6.0/releasenotes.html) and brings with it performance improvements. Customers with ZooKeeper clients from the 3.5 and 3.6 branches would be better served by moving to[ 3.7.1](https://zookeeper.apache.org/doc/r3.7.1/releasenotes.html). This version adds to the good bits of ZooKeeper 3.6.x by incorporating [further new features and improvements](https://zookeeper.apache.org/doc/r3.7.0/releasenotes.html), bug fixes as well as security fixes. We encourage you to try your preferred managed ZooKeeper version in your non-production environments first in order to confirm compatibility with your clients, before using it in production environments.
