Instaclustr Insights – Wade Timmer

While open source technology is the backbone of who we are, our customers are the lifeblood of our business. We value our customers, and the Customer Success team is an integral part of building a lasting relationship with customers, providing them with the best possible experience and ensuring their continued satisfaction.

Instaclustr has built a team dedicated to the success of a customer through customer experience and customer outcomes. Meet one of our Sales Engineering team members below!

Below are some questions we asked Wade and the responses are in his own words.

1. What does your role at Instaclustr entail?

I spend my day doing many different things. Most importantly, listening to the needs of our customers with the main goal of making their lives easier. From helping them understand our platform to mapping their current environment to a more efficient solution with Instaclustr—no 2 days are the same. Moving to open source can seem like a tall task, so I make sure they know how the process is going to go and make sure they are comfortable. I also write and create technical materials like blog posts, webinars, and tutorials.

2. What does a typical day look like for you?

No two days look the same for me. A lot of my work is based on ever-changing customer needs and incoming pipelines. I conduct pre-sales calls to make sure that a customer can benefit from our platform, and post-sales calls to check in on our current customers. In an effort to stay up to date on the open source industry and Instaclustrs current offering, I am constantly researching and gaining knowledge in whichever way I can.

3. How did you first get interested in a technology career?

I always had family members working in technology, so I was exposed to it at a very young age. I then decided to go to school and study Computer Science. Open source technology caught my eye as it is an ever-growing industry that can seemingly be used everywhere. So when I began learning more about how much open source software can help all different types of businesses, Instaclustr felt like a great place to be.

4. When did you join Instaclustr—and why?

After graduating college I joined Instaclustr in June 2021. I knew I wanted to mix between the technology side as well as interacting with customers, so the role of SE felt like a perfect fit. After talking to our CRO Steve, who also started his career as an SE, Instaclustr made me feel very welcome with lots of opportunities to learn from people who had paved the way for people like myself.

5. What’s been your favorite part about Instaclustr since joining?

Definitely the people—my team is easy to work with, enjoyable, and know how to get things done. Instaclustr has a diverse and intelligent group of people who really amaze me with their knowledge and abilities. This has made the culture at Instaclustr welcoming and always pushes me to learn more.

6. Why is it an exciting time to be in tech?

Technology is growing like crazy. I believe it will always be an exciting place to be, especially with open source technology and how fast it’s been growing in the last decade. It can also be challenging and keeps me on my toes to stay up-to-date with the latest movement in the industry.
