Following the exciting and recent release of two versions of OpenSearch®, NetApp is pleased to announce that 2.14 and 1.3.17 are now Generally Available on the Instaclustr Managed Platform. Let’s dive in and look at some of the new features you can enjoy with this new release.

Version 2.14 brings several price performance improvements. Most prominently, date histogram query performance has seen a significant boost. Date histogram queries are now up to 70% faster. This is on top of significant performance improvements that were [introduced in OpenSearch 2.12](https://www.instaclustr.com/blog/opensearch-versions-2-12-and-1-3-15-now-available-on-the-instaclustr-managed-platform/).

Another exciting feature introduced in OpenSearch 2.14 is the ability to [add, process, and visualize data from multiple external data sources in OpenSearch Dashboards](https://opensearch.org/docs/latest/dashboards/management/multi-data-sources/). Using the OpenSearch Dashboards console, you can authenticate and connect to data sources to get a more wholistic view of all your data. Additionally, users can add data sources to existing OpenSearch plugins such as Alerting and Notifications to quickly switch between views within the OpenSearch Dashboards interface.

OpenSearch 2.14 also brings enhancements to the k-NN plugin. You can now specify a k-NN threshold to return search results, (e.g. only show me 5% of closest k-NN search results for my query). This allows you to return more relevant search results and filter out information that does not meet the threshold.

OpenSearch 1.3.17 is a quality-of-life release for customers still using OpenSearch 1.x. You can see [release notes for OpenSearch 1.3.17 here.](https://github.com/opensearch-project/opensearch-build/blob/main/release-notes/opensearch-release-notes-1.3.17.md)

As always, we have updated our lifecycle status to reflect the new release. The two previous OpenSearch versions (2.12 and 1.3.15) have been moved to the “Deprecated” lifecycle state. [See here](https://www.instaclustr.com/support/documentation/useful-information/lifecycle-status-of-application-versions/) for more information about which OpenSearch versions are supported on the Instaclustr Managed Platform.

For existing OpenSearch customers, our Technical Operations team will reach out shortly to organise upgrading your clusters to this latest version. Existing customers can reach out to <support@instaclustr.com> if they have any questions about this latest OpenSearch version.
