The Open Source Institute is a not-for-profit, open source foundation focusing on open source training, certification, and research and development, to boost job-ready skills in the IT sector.
Through OpenSI, the University of Canberra and Instaclustr will collaborate on developing and delivering professional courses designed to advance software engineering skills.
Online Training and Certification
The first online course to be delivered will be Developer Training and Certification for Apache Kafka®. It will help budding software engineers, developers, and system administrators acquire the fundamental skills required to develop and operate one of the world’s most advanced and influential technologies, Apache Kafka.
Course content will include hands-on workshops, webinars, online forums, self-paced assignments, and assessments. Upon completion of the course, students will take an optional exam to become an OpenSI certified developer for Apache Kafka.
OpenSI is also developing future courses, which will include other open source technologies such as Apache Cassandra®, PostgreSQL®, and Cadence.
The Future of Open Source
There is a significant skills gap that needs to be filled regarding technology and digital literacy skills. Personnel to fill technology jobs will be in high demand over the next decade. Many businesses are only just starting to recognize the benefits of open source technologies, despite their widespread adoption and use by Fortune 100 companies.
Instaclustr and The University of Canberra recognize just how vital developing these skills will be to companies’ future success so will train IT professionals with job-ready skills that are highly sought after.
OpenSI will provide students with access to expertise, practical skills, and academic oversight, giving participants a competitive edge when they enter the workforce.
