OpenSearch 2.0 now in Preview Release

Canberra, Australia, June 21st, 2022

Instaclustr is pleased to announce that version 2.0 of OpenSearch and OpenSearch Dashboards are now available in Public Preview on Instaclustr’s SaaS Platform. This Public Preview follows quickly off the back of the OpenSearch project release of version 2.0 on May 26th.  Instaclustr’s OpenSearch managed service is based on the truly open source, Apache 2.0 licensed, OpenSearch project.

Since the OpenSearch project reached GA in July 2021 the OpenSearch project has been steadily making enhancements to the project. Key features that have been added to OpenSearch and OpenSearch Dashboards in version 2.0 include:

  • Upgrading to Lucene 9.1 which is the underlying search library used by OpenSearch.
  • A shift towards inclusive naming with Master and blacklist/whitelist usages has been deprecated in 2.0.  Instaclustr has initially reflected changes in our management Console.
  • Geolocation improvements in OpenSearch Dashboards to allow updates to Map Tiles more frequently.
  • OpenSearch dashboards have introduced a circuit breaker to assist with managing resource issues.
  • NodeJS bumped from v14.18.2 to v14.19.1

Since the release of the project on May 26th 2022 Instaclustr has been conducting the necessary testing to release  OpenSearch 2.0 in Public Preview.  During this public preview running clusters are not covered by our standard SLA nor are recommended for Production workloads.  During the Public Preview, Instaclustr will be conducting performance baselining and additional testing to ensure that we can offer industry leading support and mark OpenSearch 2.0 for General Availability.

Instaclustr will continue to maintain and patch a version 1.x of OpenSearch as this is recommended as a stepping stone for customers to migrate to OpenSearch.  Version 1.3.2 of OpenSearch has also recently been released on the Instaclustr SaaS Platform.

Existing customers running OpenSearch or Open Distro for Elasticsearch can contact our support team if they wish to upgrade their existing clusters to the last version of  OpenSearch.
