Instaclustr now supports the latest production-ready versions of Cassandra and DataStax Enterprise.
The Apache Cassandra project recently released Cassandra 2.16 and announced that the 2.1 series was now considered ready for production use. In addition, DataStax released their first Cassandra 2.1-based release Data Stax Enterprise v4.7.
Instaclustr has moved quickly to make these, and other recent releases, available to our clients and in the past week released the following versions to general availability in our production environment:
- Apache Cassandra 2.1.7
- DataStax Enterprise 4.7.0

- DataStax Enterprise 4.6.7
This ensures our clients have access to the latest stability and performance improvements as well as the functionality advances in Cassandra 2.1. They key enhancements available with Cassandra 2.1 that will be visible to our customers include:
- Performance improvements
- User defined (composite) types
- Creating indexes on collection values
- An improved implementation of counters
A more complete overview of the new features in 2.1 can be found here: https://docs.datastax.com/en/cassandra/2.1/cassandra/features2.html.
Adding support for Cassandra 2.1 also allows us to meet the demand for managed Cassandra to run the Kong API management framework which is gaining a lot of interest in the API community. If you are interested in running Kong with Instaclustr then check out our tutorial (https://support.instaclustr.com/hc/en-us/articles/204986160-Using-Instaclustr-with-Kong) for details on how to set it up.
