Instaclustr is excited to announce the public preview release of our managed service for PostgreSQL, a key open source technology that joins our suite of managed service offerings. Since the acquisition of credativ in March 2021, Instaclustr and credativ have joined forces to develop a PostgreSQL offering on the Instaclustr Managed Platform. This continues to expand the breadth of offerings that Instaclustr is able to provide.
The public preview offering leverages the decades of PostgreSQL expertise that credativ brings to Instaclustr. We were able to learn from credativ’s experience in supporting cloud environments, and have made some design choices that we think will result in one of the most robust and reliable PostgreSQL managed service offerings on the market.
One of the founding principles behind Instaclustr is the power of open source technology— that’s why we set out to offer true open source PostgreSQL with our managed service. Our managed service does not have any proprietary features or incompatibilities that will result in lock-in for customers. Our commitment to open source also means that in the future we will be able to release new versions of PostgreSQL to our platform much faster than some other providers.

Instaclustr Managed PostgreSQL Offering
We currently support :
- Running version 13.4 of PostgreSQL
- Deployments between one and five nodes (or servers) on AWS, GCP, and Azure
- Run in Instaclustr’s cloud service provider account or your own
- Synchronous replication
- Automated HA failover
- Automated backups
- Restore and point-in-time recovery
- 24x7x365 monitoring and expert support
- A small set of extensions which are pre-installed and ready for use
This is all provisioned and managed from the same managed platform used for our other great open source technologies like Apache Cassandra, Apache Kafka, the Open Distro of Elasticsearch (soon OpenSearch), and Redis. This includes our provisioning API including the Terraform Provider, automated cloud provisioning and configuration, comprehensive documentation, and our new console including metric graphs and cluster configuration.
We have an extremely capable Support team available, bringing with them a depth of PostgreSQL experience. We are also able to provide optional Application DBA Support, which is pre-purchased hours for a PostgreSQL expert DBA to assist with diagnosis and help you correct issues within your application code running in PostgreSQL.
We will be continuing to add more features and extend our public preview offering in order for it to reach its full potential. These enhancements will continue to be deployed to our offering as we approach General Availability and beyond.
