Funding affirms the need for the Apache Cassandra distributed database

CANBERRA, Australia, September 11, 2014 — Instaclustr, a new high-tech venture delivering hosted and managed DataStax Enterprise and Apache Cassandra™ services, today announced that it has successfully closed on a first round investment offer for over $2 million in seed funding.

The funding was led by ANU Connect Ventures, a fund manager responsible for investing in promising commercial opportunities arising out of the Australian National University research, other regional research institutions and local innovative companies. DataStax, the company that delivers Apache Cassandra to the enterprise, also participated in this round.

With this investment, Instaclustr aims to accelerate growth and further extend capability and product features. The company is also establishing a startup program aimed at complementing DataStax’s investment in new ventures. Instaclustr will be rapidly growing the engineering and support teams to meet the growing demand for hosted and managed Apache Cassandra services.

News of the successful round comes during the global Cassandra Summit in San Francisco, CA on September 10 and 11 and after last week’s announcement that DataStax has raised $106million, which demonstrated that Apache Cassandra and DataStax Enterprise are leading the charge in this new world of distributed database technologies.
