Observability Plugin Is Now Available for OpenSearch on the NetApp Instaclustr Managed Platform
We are delighted to announce the availability of the OpenSearch Observability plugin on the NetApp Instaclustr Managed Platform. This new addition brings robust observability capabilities to OpenSearch Dashboards, enabling users to gain comprehensive insights into their applications and infrastructure. The Observability plugin is free to use for all NetApp Instaclustr OpenSearch customers.
The Observability plugin seamlessly integrates with OpenSearch Dashboards, providing a comprehensive suite of tools for monitoring, analyzing and visualizing data. With its versatile functionality, the plugin supports a wide range of use cases, including:
- Log Ingestion and Analytics: With the Observability plugin, you can leverage the power of the Piped Processing Language (PPL) to run queries, monitor, correlate, analyze, and visualize data from any index. This capability allows you to gain valuable insights from your log data, save queries and visualizations for future reference, and make informed decisions based on comprehensive log analytics.
- Metric Analytics: The Observability plugin enables you to ingest metric data from an external Prometheus server or an OpenTelemetry-compatible metrics index. By visualizing this data within OpenSearch Dashboards, you can easily track and analyze key metrics related to your applications and infrastructure. This functionality empowers you to identify performance trends, detect anomalies, and optimize resource allocation for improved operational efficiency.
- Trace Analytics: Gain deeper insights into the performance and operation of your systems by ingesting and visualizing OpenTelemetry or Jaeger trace data. The Observability plugin allows you to correlate traces with other observability data, enabling you to identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot issues, and optimize the overall performance of your applications. With trace analytics, you can uncover hidden dependencies, understand request flows, and ensure optimal user experience.
- Application Analytics: By combining log events with trace and metric data, the Observability plugin provides a holistic view of your applications’ availability. This comprehensive approach allows you to monitor the health of your applications in real-time, identify potential issues, and proactively address them before they impact end-users. With application analytics, you can ensure high availability, reduce downtime, and deliver exceptional user experiences.
- Notebooks: The Observability plugin allows you to create interactive notebooks that combine Markdown, SQL, or PPL queries, and visualization blocks. These notebooks serve as powerful tools for generating reports, designing runbooks, building live infrastructure reports, and writing documentation. With notebooks, you can collaborate with team members, share insights, and document your observability workflows for future reference.
- Operational Panels: With the Observability plugin, you can create operational panels that consolidate various visualizations and query results in one place. These panels offer a consolidated view of your operational data, allowing you to monitor key metrics, track system health, and identify trends or anomalies at a glance. By customizing operational panels, you can build personalized dashboards that provide actionable insights and facilitate effective decision-making.
The Observability plugin empowers you to take a proactive approach to monitoring and troubleshooting, ensuring that you can maintain the performance and reliability of your critical applications. Detailed instructions on enabling the Observability plugin for new OpenSearch clusters through our Console, API, or Terraform provider can be found in our support documentation.
